Hamilton from Houston
“Hello! My name is Hamilton Barclay, I’m from Houston, Texas and I sail out of the Houston Yacht Club. I started sailing at the age of 6 at the Hawaii Yacht Club. My father and grandfather were both avid sailors and I instantly fell in love with the sport. I started racing soon after and since then, I’ve tried to sail as many boats as possible and learn as much as I can. I raced 420s throughout my early teenage years but when the COVID pandemic hit, I had to find a better alternative for racing. We had a 1996 Laser in our garage and at the time, it was the only option for competitive sailing. With only an ILCA 6 lower, learning the boat at 120 lbs or 54 kg was a challenge. Thankfully, I decided to stick with it and I continue to race the ILCA 6 at the national level in the United States.
Sailing the ILCA has taught me how important equipment is to your success on the water. The simpleness of your rigging setup magnifies the importance of using the correct blocks, purchases, and most importantly, lines. Using Kingfisher ropes for my control lines has been the best decision I have made in regards to my boat setup. With a variety of different high-quality lines, Kingfisher does a phenomenal job of keeping my boat in tip-top shape.”
